My first Cirque du Soleil show and wow! Or should I say, “Mr. Wow!” I honestly did not know what to expect but walking into the big top, seeing how intimate and close the arena was, I got excited. And it did not disappoint! The story telling, the acrobats, BMX, jump roping, colors, and music! All if combined makes for a breath taking show.

Without giving too much away, Volta follows a story of a young man, WAZ, who is “different” from the world. Starting in a talent show type game show, following his life, to accepting who he is.

Get to your seats early, as the beginning act will begin to wow the crowd. We begin with a game show, Mr. Wow’s game show. The object of this game, for the contestants to “Wow” the crowd. Volta is also described as a sporty Cirque De Soleil with its BMX display and the first act begins with jump roping. The performers find ways to display great athleticism while interacting with the crowd. The lights and colors also work so beautifully during the jump roping that one can’t take their eyes off the action. If you ask me if this was, “Wow or No Wow,” It was definitely a Wow!

Then we meet WAZ, a talented and unique dancer, acrobat, and cyclist. Who amazes us with his dancing grace and then shows off his acrobatic talents. He meets Ela and the Freespirits, who help him, for lack of better words, be free. As mentioned earlier, Volta follows the story of WAZ but that does not mean that other characters along the way don’t get to shine. The Freespirits definitely shine and have us wanting to jump on a trampoline.

Cirque Du Soleil does a great job, again, of combining so many aspects into a great experience. Trampoline, wall climbing, acrobatics, and live music make this act such a fan favorite. As we see colorful costumes literally bouncing off of walls and flipping all over the stage, all while listening to live drums.

Of Course, Volta could not end its amazing story without an amazing BMX act to finish the amazing story of WAZ. The audience sees a full course BMX track pop up, seemingly out of thin air. Then more high flying ensues, this time with bicycles flying from one side to another. Tail whips, back flips, wall taps these performers pulled out all the stops to entertain the crowd.

There is so much more I did not talk about just for the mere fact that no words, nor pictures, do this amazing show justice. I also did not want to give too much away, so you can be surprised and wowed by the talents of these performers. From the wows to the laughs, from the costumes to the music, Volta had it all and had a little something for everyone. This show is family friendly and also a great date idea. Cirque Du Soleil: Volta will only be at Dodger Stadium this weekend before moving over to the O.C. This amazing show will be held at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa from March 18th to April 19th.
